Step Inside the Circle

This video impacted me, and I feel it's crucial that I share it with you. Please take a moment to watch it. You will probably replay it a few times like I did. Each time you listen, you will hear the heart behind every person who courageously and vulnerably shared. The last time I rewatched, I heard grown men's voices, but I saw young boys speaking.

The tragic reality is that hurt people hurt people. This is not just a saying but a profound truth about the cycle of trauma. When we carry unresolved pain from our past, it often manifests in our relationships and interactions, causing us to damage others unintentionally. The generational trauma, the childhood wounds, and bondage that are never dealt with have a cyclical effect and will only keep us in prison, and this is not only behind metal bars.

I personally believe we can change history by what we do in the home.  I attend many gatherings and hear speakers take the microphones and declare how the 'prodigals' are coming home.  As much as I love and agree with it, a part of me is concerned.  What kind of homes are the 'prodigals' coming back to?  Are the parents /family capable of love?  Have the adults dealt with their own trauma so they can support their children's healing journey? And are they going to work together to pinpoint the origin of trauma and break the cycle? So much must happen, and I don't think it can be done alone.

For the last few months, I have been studying different resources on trauma. And one of the experts said we all have faced trauma one way or the other. Some deal with it healthily, some bury it, and some act out on it. Some happen during childhood, teenage years, adult years, in the home, workplace, with friends, strangers, and family. We may not be sitting in a cage in a maximum security prison; however, we are not living the complete freedom we're supposed to.

Let's examine where we are and step inside the circle. There is no shame. There is no shame. There is no shame. Trauma can separate us, but it can also bind us together. Healed people can heal people. We are ALL worthy of His love.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners,

to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor

and the day of vengeance of our God,

to comfort all who mourn,

and provide for those who grieve in Zion—

to bestow on them a crown of beauty

    instead of ashes,

the oil of joy

    instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise

instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,

    a planting of the Lord

for the display of his splendor.

~Isaiah 61:1-3 (NIV)
