Jericho Walk

Writer: itallstartsinthehoitallstartsintheho

Just like many of your children, our kids start school next Monday. We have been mourning the last days of summer but are trying to make the best of it. It feels like we blinked, and the summer break came to a quick close. As much as we wish to hold time and enjoy summer longer, we know we have to forge ahead and prepare what we can. I'm not referring to new supplies or clothes, which is also necessary; I'm talking about arming our kids with prayer.

One of the ways we mark each new academic year is by praying over the school. We walk around the campus and have the kids declare what they hear God saying over their school environment. My older kids will attend classes at the local community college, so each building is included in our Jericho walk (Joshua 6).

Part of their prayer arsenal is to write out their personal top 10 prayer requests. They pair each request with a Bible verse that they can claim as a promise. We post these lists where we can see them often and decree them over our children.

The kids also include a friend they are committed to praying for. They may know Jesus intimately or may not, but they invite the Holy Spirit to guide their specific requests.

It's exciting to build their prayer life in this specific way because they can witness their prayers answered firsthand. It's also vital to remind them that our Abba Father is in charge, and they are not, so there's no need to fret (easier said than done sometimes☺).

We believe this academic year will be successful and can't wait to share around this time next year what God did beyond what we could have imagined or hoped for. Best of Luck to your kiddos!

**I suggested a Jericho walk to a friend who was starting a new job. She commented that there was a vast difference in her work environment, and she knows it had to do with the prayers she invested. Trust me, it works!
